UPDATE NOTE; 9 PM ON OCTOBER 25TH: Our phone’s been ringing off the hook and The Land Blank is currently operating at capacity so we will not be able to manage many, if any, new requests for proxy bidding. Thank you so much to everyone who reached out and/or participated. You can still email us, but we apologize if we are not able to get back to you before the end of the auction. We’ve learned a lot, made new friends, and helped a small but growing number of locals buy homes, as well as a handful of $500 properties for neighborly use. To see a Detroit News video article about the project, go here. You can also follow our updates on Facebook and on Twitter.
If you’d like to bid on a Detroit property but are not registered for the auction please write or call us: thelandblank@gmail.com or [phone number redacted for now — too many calls and our capacity is currently full!]. If you have a good story and the funds in place, we might be able to bid on it for you and quit claim the deed to you if you win.
If you’re interested in “crowdfunding” $500 properties that receive no other bids, please write or call us about that, too. If current auction trends hold, approximately *8,000* of the 13,000 properties coming up for auction will not receive bids. You might have no interest in personally owning and having liability in a forgotten property, but you still might like to see it find a good home.
If and when The Land Blank acquires properties we will advertise what we have and attempt to find the best possible local use and owner to turn it over to. That might mean a neighbor, it might mean a community group, it might mean a project, or it might mean someone who has a moving story.
Our crowdfunding pool currently has $1,500 — enough to buy 3 properties with — that was generously donated by the TEDxDetroit conference.
The Land Blank is a collaboration between Paper Street and LOVELAND Technologies. We are an independent entity looking to do awesome, with no official connection to Wayne County or official auction processes, and we make no promises. We simply try our best. Enter at your own risk, but know that we are exceedingly nice.
